Pics from the past week

I've promised a couple of times to share a bunch of pics from the past week...so here they are!  Prepare for your tastebuds to be jealous.  This was one of the most interesting trips, food wise, that I've been on in a long time.  I hope you find these pictures interesting as well!

One more thing...I should mention that Michael and I met one of our good friends at Jake's Good Eats for dinner on Friday night.  It is in north Charlotte and has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  It really lived up to its name! (Also, Michael apologizes for the size of this post.  He's going to work on figuring out how to do a photo gallery in future posts.)

Cheese curds at 5-8 Club. Squeaky goodness!

The 5-8 Club JUICY LUCY. Notice the spelling. We'll get to the real JUCY LUCY in a few minutes...Sign outside the 5-8 Club. The inside was not as seedy as the outside.View on the street outside Zelo. The weather was fantastic!Butternut squash ravioli at Zelo. Very tasty!Budino molten chocolate lava cake. I'm not going to post the pic of how much I ate for fear of incriminating myself!Frisee and rocket salad mentioned in my post on June 23rd. Dish 1 of 5 (!!) at Bar LaGrassaBruschetta w/avocado and anchovies. Dish 2 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaSpaghetti carbonara with house cured pancetta. 3 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaBruschetta with eggplant and prosciutto. 4 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaTruffle cream cheese wontons wth a malt vinegar dipping sauce. This was the best part of the meal at Mission American Kitchen.Unlike Adam from Man v Food, I'm not afraid to pick a winner in the battle for Jucy Lucy supremacy. This JUCY LUCY from Matt's Bar is it.The side of Matt's Bar. The menu at Matt's. It's Matt's way or the highway here! The sign outside Matt's. Such a hole in the wall place. I LOVE IT!Fried green tomatoes at Jake's Good Eats in Charlotte. This place was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and definitely lived up to its name.Michael's "All the Way" burger at Jake's. He had to use a fork because it was so messy! My fried bologna sandwich at Jake's. So good!We met our good friend Adam at Jake's for dinner. He ordered the pork chop, and it looked fantastic. He said it was really good.

Bar LaGrassa

I am continuing to fall in love with this little town known as Minneapolis.  Is it really a little town?  I have no idea but I don't care.  Either way, it is clean, green and has fantastic restaurants.  Last night, we had another fabulous meal in Minneapolis!  Dinner couldn't have been any better.  We found this new place on Washington Avenue tucked inside an old warehouse.  The scene is very hip and now, with beautiful people eating dinner - they have to eat too, ya know!  It is very boisterous inside so if you are in search of a quiet place for good conversation, this is not the place for you.  However.  If you are wanting a meal where you just want to keep eating and trying new foods and combinations that you would have never put together (or at least I wouldn't have thought of it) and you want to walk away, go get horizontal on the hotel bed and rub your belly - then, this is the place for you.

Bar LaGrassa offers small and large plates.  May I suggest that you grab the small plate so that you can go tappas-style and try many items.  Have I mentioned this is an Italian restaurant?  I didn't think so, but it is.  My meal last night consisted of....don't hate the eater....

1. A salad of frisee and rocket, toasted pine nuts, fresh mozeralla cheese with saporoso.  Saporoso is a 12-yr aged balsamic vinegar.  The salad was slightly salty and tangy with the blending of the cheese and the vinegar.  So good, so so good.

2. Bruschetta with avocado and white whole anchovies (no head) with chopped scallions and a light vinaigrette.  This is a combination I would have never put together but the saltiness of the anchovy and the smoothness of the avocado just melted on my tongue.  Loved it!!

3.  Fresh pasta - spaghetti carbonara made with house-cured pancetta and an over-easy egg placed on top of the pile of pasta.  I got to enjoy breaking the egg and swishing the juices thru the pasta - how fresh and delectable is that??

4.  I know, I know - 4 items?!?!   Bruschetta with eggplant and proscuitto.  The eggplant was a thick spread of the vegetable - a good saltiness from a vinaigrette that was doused on top of the spread and then the proscuitto was placed on top, in a spot of honor.

5.  Just a bite of #5 - Jenn ordered the silk handkerchief fresh pasta with fresh basil pesto.  I had to have a bite!  It was so smooth and so fresh that it melted in my mouth.

There was no room in my tummy for dessert.  And, let's remember that my pants were tight on Monday night after dinner!  So no dessert for me!  As we paid the check, we received a little gift of peanut brittle in a small celophane bag.  The brittle had a small anise flavor and the after-taste had notes of cayenne - I had a little kick in my mouth for quite some time.

I cannot wait to show you the pictures this weekend!

(And yes, I went back to the hotel room, rubbed my belly and then got out the yoga video and did a little bit.  That I can walk today is a miracle.)
