Hi ho Hi ho

It's off to New York I go!!!

December 12 thru December 16, my chick-ees!!  Super excited - I so loooooove this city.  MB is super excited as well. NOT because he gets our place to himself for five days but because he's coming with me.  I'll be working for several days and he'll be playing.  At least I'll get to play at night.

I'm always excited to see a show, or two, or five while I'm there.  So far, we have tickets to two shows:  A Christmas Carol (my mommy absolutely hates this movie) and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  I saw this show several years ago and I still believe this is the best show that I have EVER seen on Broadway.  How fabulous is it that I get to see it again?!?  Christmas spirit here I come!!

Tis the season

Well, the holidays are here and in full gear.  I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit but it is hard for me this year.  I'm not sure why I'm struggling.  There has been a bit of travel - Minneapolis, Ft Lauderdale, Boston, the City (New York, of course) and a couple of other cities in between!  I've had my fair share of good eats over the past couple of months.

One place stands out in my mind - a Cuban restaurant in South Beach.  My friend Ana (beautiful Persian girl) was VERY happy at this joint.  She was having so much fun that I had to take notes so I would not forget her delights!  She was expressly joyful over a Pina Colada..."That's good sh$t.  I can't stop moving!  Call Gloria!!" (We were eating at Gloria Estefan's place).

Salut continues  to not let me forget it (I think I've blogged about it before).  But the black cherry ice cream with the house-sized piece of Red Velvet cake is lodged into my memory.  This is reason enough for someone to live in Minneapolis and brave the artic cold!

NYC - what can I say??  Great Cuban food at Victors - a really really good chimichurri.  Comes close to that of Gloria's but not quite.  But, hey, I still slurped down as much as I could.  I even strong-armed the waiter for another round  ;).  Love love love the Halaal street cart just outside the Hilton NY.  This time I didn't have to wait in a 30 minute line.  I guess I got there just at the right time.  Cupcakes from Magnolia's - can't go wrong.  OH!  I found a new cookie while I was there.  A bodaga (am I spelling that correctly?  I don't know and I'm too tired right now to check the spelling - just bear with me) across the street from the Firm that I was visiting carries Tate's Bake Shop cookies.  I bought the chocolate chip walnut cookies.  They are thin and crisp and unbelievably delicious.  (I know what some family members are getting in their Christmas stockings this year...ssshhh - don't tell)

In Boston, I came across Mooo.  Can you guess what kind of a place it is?  Great steaks and I really liked the decor of the place.  It is quite on the expensive side so I busted my meal allotment that day!  This place has been voted the best steak place in Boston and I agree - it was really good.  I'd love to take MB there.  Next time I'm in Boston....

We also ventured into The Parker House while in Boston.  Parker House rolls and Boston Creme Pie was invented here.  So, of course I had to try both.  Loved the rolls - not so much on the pie.  I'm just not a fan.  But at least I've tried it from the source!  I'm happy about that!!

Back to Christmas.  I have decided to not decorate this Christmas.  It hurts to say that because of the traditions and fun that my family has over Christmas.  MB and I are not going to be in town over the holidays so I decided that since we will not be in town to enjoy the decorations, there is no need to decorate.  There is always next year!  And, I get to enjoy the decorations in TN this year!  I will be making loads of Christmas cookies to pass out to friends and neighbors.  I'll keep you posted on the Cookies that I decide to make with recipes and pictures!
