Mr. K's

It's the Christmas season in Charlotte, NC!  And with that comes a blistering cold that I am not happy about.  Today, our anticipated high (34 degrees) is lower than the average low for this time of year.  And I don't like it.  Not one little bit.

Jenn and I went to lunch at Mr.K's Soft Ice Cream on South Boulevard.  I'm bundled up in a long wool coat, a scarf, and gloves.  Jenn is wearing a thin tee-shirt, a thin cardigan, her husband's sweatshirt-styled jacket (unzipped), and flip-flops.  Jenn is 9 months pregnant - ready to drop any day so she's hot and her feet can't fit into her shoes.  I'm yelling about the cold and she's smiling and loving it!  Crazy girl!!!

But, we did have a great lunch.  I had a chili hotdog:  steammed bun, onions, mustard and chili - De-Lish.  I had an order of greasy salty french fries to go along with it.  Mr. K's makes a mean milkshake but I just couldn't fit one in today.  Jenn had a double burger with grilled onions and chili cheese fries.  She said it was awesome because the onions had the seasonings from the grill.

Mr.K's is a dive.  But yet, in Charlotte, it's an institution.  It's the kind of Southern place where you're called 'honey' or 'sweetie' and it's OK because the waitresses are just using the Southern lingo that they were brought up with.  It's my kind of place.
