Pics from the past week

I've promised a couple of times to share a bunch of pics from the past week...so here they are!  Prepare for your tastebuds to be jealous.  This was one of the most interesting trips, food wise, that I've been on in a long time.  I hope you find these pictures interesting as well!

One more thing...I should mention that Michael and I met one of our good friends at Jake's Good Eats for dinner on Friday night.  It is in north Charlotte and has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  It really lived up to its name! (Also, Michael apologizes for the size of this post.  He's going to work on figuring out how to do a photo gallery in future posts.)

Cheese curds at 5-8 Club. Squeaky goodness!

The 5-8 Club JUICY LUCY. Notice the spelling. We'll get to the real JUCY LUCY in a few minutes...Sign outside the 5-8 Club. The inside was not as seedy as the outside.View on the street outside Zelo. The weather was fantastic!Butternut squash ravioli at Zelo. Very tasty!Budino molten chocolate lava cake. I'm not going to post the pic of how much I ate for fear of incriminating myself!Frisee and rocket salad mentioned in my post on June 23rd. Dish 1 of 5 (!!) at Bar LaGrassaBruschetta w/avocado and anchovies. Dish 2 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaSpaghetti carbonara with house cured pancetta. 3 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaBruschetta with eggplant and prosciutto. 4 of 5 at Bar LaGrassaTruffle cream cheese wontons wth a malt vinegar dipping sauce. This was the best part of the meal at Mission American Kitchen.Unlike Adam from Man v Food, I'm not afraid to pick a winner in the battle for Jucy Lucy supremacy. This JUCY LUCY from Matt's Bar is it.The side of Matt's Bar. The menu at Matt's. It's Matt's way or the highway here! The sign outside Matt's. Such a hole in the wall place. I LOVE IT!Fried green tomatoes at Jake's Good Eats in Charlotte. This place was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and definitely lived up to its name.Michael's "All the Way" burger at Jake's. He had to use a fork because it was so messy! My fried bologna sandwich at Jake's. So good!We met our good friend Adam at Jake's for dinner. He ordered the pork chop, and it looked fantastic. He said it was really good.

Sunday morning I hopped a flight to Minneapolis.  I'll be spending the week in this fair city for work.  It is my first time here and I can tell you..."I hope all of you come to this place and enjoy the weather.  But, come in the summer!!"  Jenn and I are working together again so we traveled together on Sunday.  She likes to eat as much as I do so our first stop on Sunday was the 5-8 club, home of the Juicy Lucy (as seen on Man v. Food).  The Juicy Lucy is 2 burgers with American cheese in between the patties and when the patties cook, the cheese melts.  When you bite into the burger - watch out - the cheesy gooey goodie runs out!  (Later this week we are headed to Matt's for our own taste test war)  We also had fried cheese curds for an appetizer - they were so good that they squeaked when we chewed.  A shout out to Wisconsin for cheese curds!  After we finished stuffing ourselves with cheese curds, Juicy Lucys, fries, onion rings and coleslaw (!!), we headed to the Mississippi River for an arts festival, walked across a stone bridge, and proceeded to walk about 2 miles back to the hotel.  If I could have strangled Jenn I would have.  She promised we'd jump in the first cab we saw to get us back to the hotel.  Did we see a cab????  No sir, we did not!  And she lied to me -she lied! She told me our hotel was MUCH closer to the river than what it actually was.  She freely admitted that she lied to me so she could get me to do the walk.  I found a fountain mid-way back to the hotel and I put my purse down, used it as a pillow and was laid out before she could turn around! It was actually nice; however, anyone walking by had to be amused at the sight of me.  The marble that became my bed was still warm from the sun, the sky was Carolina blue, the weather was in the low 80's, no humidity, and there was a cool breeze blowing.  It was perfect!  I finally got up and schlepped the final length to the hotel.  And, I let her ply me with an amaretto sour for my trouble!

Monday night, Jenn and I went to Zelo's (Italian) for a nice dinner.  We sat outside and again the weather was perfect.  Minnesotians are talking about the humidity that has entered their fair city and I have to laugh.  They need to spend a day in North Carolina so that they will know what humidity is all about! Again yesterday, the sky was a perfect Carolina blue and a slight breeze was blowing.  The outside patio at Zelo's over-looked the street that has streetlamps with beautiful summer flower baskets overflowing with colorful flowers.  A little Roy Orbison was streaming from the restaurant's speakers.  My meal was incredible.  I started with organic baby lettuces with balsamic vinegar that a slight hand had poured.  My main course was butternut squash ravioli with a butter and fried sage and fried pancetta sauce.  YUM YUM YUM.  Dessert was a chocolate budino cake with molten chocolate and salted caramel gelato.  YUM YUM YUM (I ate so much that my pants were tight when I stood up.  I marched over to the target and bought a pair of workout shorts, a workout top and a yoga DVD.  I went back to the hotel room, sat my purchases down, and climbed in bed with a book. heeheehee  I have to work up to the working-out thing; buying the clothes was the first step)

Pictures will be posted this weekend.  I'm getting better at remembering to take pictures - I only took one bite of the cake and gelato before I remembered to take a pic!
